A Transnational Training on policies crucial for the future of Europe
Political Training Day organized by European Free Alliance and Patto per l’Autonomia
A political training day organized by the European Free Alliance together with the Patto per l’Autonomia will take place on Sunday, 26 April, focusing on topics crucial for European policies: overtourism and migrations; food and energy production and distribution; ports, shipping and logistic infrastructures; public participation in decisions regarding infrastructures; cross-border environmental protection initiatives.
The initiative is designed as an immersive, field-based learning experience combining walking, direct observation, and dialogue with local actors, institutions, and civil society. It aims to provide participants with concrete tools to better understand the social, environmental and economic dynamics shaping border territories, combining political training, peer learning, and public debate.
The day will begin at 8:15 in Domio (Trieste), with the departure of participants.
At 9:30, the group will visit the Rado Kocjančič farm, where a session titled “Caring for the territory through food: the Slow Food presidia” will take place. This discussion will explore how sustainable agriculture and local food systems contribute to territorial resilience and environmental stewardship. Speakers will include Barbara Nappini, President of Slow Food Italy, alongside Enrico Maria Milic and Rado Kocjančič.
Following a shared lunch, the programme will continue at 14:00 in the Noghere area, along the route towards the Muggia tunnel. This session, “From heavy traffic to tunnel expansion: the impacts of logistics and large infrastructures”, led by Jacopo Rothenaisler, will address the environmental and social consequences of major infrastructure projects and transport corridors in the era of long-distance logistics.
Around 17:00, participants will reach Punta Olmi for the final thematic discussion: “Struggling to defend and enhance the territory beyond borders”. This moment will bring together local committees and institutional representatives engaged in environmental protection and cross-border cooperation, including Spazio Muggia, the Comitato Salviamo Punta Olmi, Barbara Svagelj (Deputy Mayor of Ankaran), Anna Masiello, and Valentina Delben.
The training day will conclude at 18:30 with final remarks, at the presence of a EFA Vice President, and the closing of the political school.
This initiative reflects the European Free Alliance’s commitment to fostering grassroots political education, strengthening local democracy, and promoting sustainable and community-led approaches to territorial development, particularly in cross-border regions.
